About Gilbert J. Bennett, P. Eng., FCAE
Gilbert Bennett is a distinguished professional engineer and Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, noted for his leadership in Canada’s renewable electricity sector. Named one of the 75 most influential people in hydropower by International Water Power and Dam Construction magazine in 2024, Gilbert brings over four decades of electrical engineering excellence, including nearly 20 years in hydroelectric development.
Through his independent consulting practice, GJ Bennett Management Consulting Ltd., based in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador, he continues to advise national industry organizations and lead transformative energy projects with a focus on environmental stewardship and Indigenous collaboration.

Muskrat Falls / Lower Churchill Hydro Electric Project
- Led development and delivery of the $5.5 billion Muskrat Falls hydroelectric facility
- Spearheaded environmental assessments, Indigenous consultation, and complex commercial negotiations
